An old friend from literally 19 years ago just uploaded these to facebook for me. I must have given them to her around 6th grade? We both were homeschooled after 4th grade so we stayed buddies for a while. Anyway. Nice to see my art hasn’t changed in the slightest >:D

My final project for Digital Painting class.

For my project I wanted to personify specific gems and the myths surrounding them.

The first one is Amethyst. She is part of a Roman myth where the goddess Diana crystallized her to save her from Bacchus’s tigers. Distraught by her death, Bacchus wept tears of wine on her crystallized form, staining her purple.

The second is Labradorite. This stone is part of an Inuit myth where the light of the Aurora Borealis was trapped within rock, and by force, they cracked the stone, releasing it into the sky.

And finally, the third is Carnelian. This stone represented the god Set or Seth from the Egyptian pantheon. Seth was the god of desert and storms, and killed and mutilated his brother Osiris.
