My gut reaction to that famous Joshua Bell violin social experiment thing where he plays a very beautiful and complicated piece of music on a 3 million dollar violin in the middle of a Metro station dressed like a busker is to be pissed off by it - because I don’t give a shit what is happening in the middle of a Metro station, if I am trying to go to work or get to class, I don’t want to be analyzed to look like a self-absorbed, hard-hearted asshole who doesn’t appreciate fine art just because I’m running to catch a train.

Of course hardly anyone paid attention to him. That article is dumb. People’s actions inside a Metro station do not reflect their actions in every other aspect of their lives.

That’s like saying, we put a giant beautiful cake in the middle of a burning office building and not one of the people running out of there stopped to appreciate all the work that went into that cake, let alone take a bite! What is society coming to?
